Backgammon Strategy Is Key To Winning

I don’t think I’ll find many arguments when I say backgammon is a game of strategy.  It’s true, at times a little luck is involved with the role of the dice, but for the most part, when you step up to a game of backgammon, your fate lies in the strategy you take from beginning to end.

One fun thing about backgammon strategy is there’s not just one and you can’t rely on just one to win a game.  There are of course two main styles of play; fast and slow; a running game and a priming game.

I’m a running game man.  I love to jump out of the gates and not slow down until I’ve won, but that’s not always smart.  I usually try to play against my opponents strengths.  So, if my opponent is playing a priming backgammon strategy, I’ll use the running game and if they play a running game I’ll start my opening moves fast and if I feel like they’re getting ahead I’ll slow it down.

But no matter what backgammon strategies you think you’re going to use, you have to be prepared to switch.  Maybe your opening running game is going great but your opponent hits one of your checkers and you’re having problems rolling it out.  Although you wanted to play a running game, in this case you’ll probably need to slow it down granted your opponent makes advancements.
